I thought this news item was interesting, given that I just read
another poll that said the majority of women won't spend more than
$100 on any given piece of jewelry for themselves.
OCTOBER 24, 2006 - Paso Robles, Calif. -- One in 10 jewelry consumers
plan to purchase pearls within the next six months, a new study finds.
The study, conducted by the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC),
also finds that more than half of those planning on purchasing pearls
intend to buy them for themselves.
Earrings are the most popular type of pearl jewelry that women plan to
purchase, and independent jewelers and jewelry chains represent the
most popular place to buy them.
"Given that well over half of the respondents who are predominantly
female [86 percent] consider pearls desirable, the door is open to
suggest pearl jewelry to female shoppers, who are more likely to
purchase pearls for themselves than [have men give them pearls as
gifts]," MVI Marketing President Elizabeth Chatelain said in a
statement.
Want great pearl styles under $100? Buy them online, where retail
costs are eliminated. A great site to try: http://www.moonriverpearls.com
The JCOC is a U.S. and Canadian e-panel of consumers, representing all
ages, genders, income levels, buying categories and geographic
regions. This study had 2,842 participants from Oct. 13 to Oct. 18.
