In Her Shoes

Fri Oct 06 20:26:03 EDT 2006
Looking for a chick flick to catch with your pals? In Her Shoes will
make you laugh more than cry, but it's a great girl movie, and one of
the very few where the movie was as good as the book (The Perfect
Storm was another.)

The story follows Maggie (Cameron Diaz) and Rose (Toni Collette), two
sisters suffering from low self-esteem. Maggie is the beautiful,
unemployed ditz who uses her looks to get what she wants; Rose is the
Ivy League-educated attorney who is brilliant but struggles with her
weight.

Both, of course, find what they're missing by the sweet/sad ending,
but it's the getting there that's fun to watch. You'll have to see for
yourself, though.

Shirley MacLaine is wonderful as the girls' long-lost grandmother. And
Rose's shoe collection is amazing. That's all I'll give away.

I went with four pals and we all agreed the movie was terrific (rare).
So leave your man at home, grab your gal pals, some large, buttered
popcorn (or bring an apple, if seeing Cameron Diaz's impossibly tight
thighs while simultaneously munching a Louis Vuitton luggage-size box
of Milk Dudes will make you self-loathe) and don't forget the Kleenex.
