Maternity Fashion Dos and Donts

Mon Sep 10 10:10:02 EDT 2007

Some chick who works on Project Runway, writing for Elle, gave
pointers in this month's issue about maternity style. I have to take
exception with some of her tips.

Borrow from the boys: She says try knits, tux jackets and button-
downs. I say this will just make you look huge and sloppy. Tailored
maternity wear is much more flattering. I learned that the hard way.

Invest in leggings, she says. Another no-no. Leggings? Please. How
about leg warmers and shoulder pads too? Get a great pair of skinny
maternity jeans and some bell-bottomed maternity sweats and you're
golden.

Wear high heels: Hello??? Pregnant women can barely waddle around
comfortably in sneakers two sizes larger than normal to accommodate
swollen feet. They're not going to wear high heels. Not to mention the
safety issue: Loose ligaments from pregnancy hormones make sky-high
heels a particular hazard.

Here are her tips I can get behind:

Wear tone-on-tone color: Yes, it's slimming and easy to wear.

Keep shapes simple and classic: Another 'do.' For an added bonus, A-
line dresses, tunics and tees can be worn after baby is born.

Adorn yourself: YES! Accentuate yourself from the waist up with pearl
necklaces, a gorgeous diamond pendant, chandelier earrings or chunky
cocktail rings. Fun and easy to do, plus you probably already own
great jewelry.
