Forget gold being the signature color of the Oscars. This year, it was all about red. Katherine Heigl (pictured) and Anne Hathaway were two of the notable standouts wearing red this year. I loved both of their off-the-shoulder dresses. And did you catch the Oscar jewelry?

Some critics said the stars played it safe this year, and for the most part I agree, but when it comes to jewelry, the classics are always a good bet. Who can blame celebs for choosing staples such as diamond drop earrings, dangling chandelier earrings and simple studs? These timeless pieces beautifully add bling to gowns without overwhelming the wearer. I did notice a surprising absence of necklaces...but stars more than made up for bare necks with megawatt diamond cuffs. I say fashion-wise, Oscar 2008 was a hit.
