New Year, New You?

Tue Dec 19 09:52:33 EST 2006

All the January issues of my favorite beauty and fashion magazines are
out. Elle, Glamour, Vogue...they're all promising New Year! New You!

Tempting to get sucked in, but last I checked, you're still the same
old you with all your sparkling qualities and all those not-so-
sparkling ones.

A big overhaul is almost guaranteed to flop this time of year. Know
what works? Little changes. Here's my advice:

Resolution: Lose 195 lbs. in one day

Solution: Dump that loser who won't commit.

Resolution: Lose 10 lbs. by spring

Solution: Cut 150 calories a day. Stay away from sugar and white
flour. Move your butt. Adopt a shelter dog and walk him 20 minutes
twice a day. Limit alcohol. Easy. And ditch the diet food. No one
wants to eat that crap, including you.

Resolution: Quit Smoking

Solution: Get the Gum. Keep trying. Even cutting down is good for you.

Resolution: Dress Better

Solution: First, ditch trends. Only wear what looks good on YOU. If
you're overweight, skinny jeans are not for you. Accessorize. You
probably already own a strand of pearls. If not, freshwater cultured
pearls, like those from http://www.moonriverpearls.com, are affordable
and chic. Wear them to dress up a sweater or even a tee. Diamond studs
look great, too. They add cache to even the shoddiest outfit (I know I
work from home in sweats and wear them all the time.) Try http://www.bluenile.com

.

Resolution: Get out of Debt

Solution: Cut up all but one credit card. Make a plan to pay it off.
Then don't use it. Put away something, even if it's just $100 a month,
and watch it grow. INGdirect.com is a great place to stash cash. And
remember, no matter how much you want those Prada boots, being debt-
free is better.
