On my way to get my semi-monthly mani/pedi this morning, I heard lots
of juicy tidbits on my fave morning radio show, including dish about
Seal and Heidi Klum's new baby boy, Tawny Kitaen's cocaine bust,
Michael Richards' apology and Borat's engagement.
But by far the best info. they shared was about how 78% of companies
monitor employees' Internet use; and most say they would fire
employees for Christmas shopping on cyber Monday.
Don't do it! It's not worth your job just to take advantage of your
company's faster download times. (Or maybe it is, but don't say you
haven't been warned.)
The DJ suggested changing cyber Monday to cyber Friday... swapping the
day after Thanksgiving's early morning wake up calls and long lines
for PJ's, coffee and your computer.
Why not? The deals you get online are often better than those you'd
find in stores, and you save gas and time by not having to go out. Why
fight for a parking space just to turn around and fight the mall
crowds? The deals ain't that great! And many online retailers have
free shipping and major incentives this time of year, and you can also
get stuff wrapped. Hey, paper, tape and bows add up!
Ever since I've had an Internet connection, I've been shopping online.
It's soooo much easier than shopping in stores at this time of year.
Everything comes right to my door and I have much more time for the
things that really count, like hanging out with family, exercising to
avoid eggnog-induced flab, drinking wine, positioning myself under the
mistletoe, and shopping for, uh, me.
I actually finished all my shopping in under an hour this year. I got
stuff gift wrapped, and in most cases, shipped free. Here are my faves:
http://www.kbtoys.com (for kids)
http://smithhawken.com (for hard-to-shop-for-folks)
http://apple.com (for teens)
http://www.moonriverpearls.com (for every female; free shipping!)
http://lego.com (for tween boys)
http://www.americangirl.com (for girls)
Try it; it's painless. It's like online banking: Scary to think about
but very easy once you get started. You'll wonder why you ever set
foot in a mall.
