Style Dilemma: Buy a Tee, or Pay the Rent

Fri Oct 06 20:21:53 EDT 2006
I saw an outrageously expensive tee shirt at a store this weekend.
Yes, I said tee shirt, not shearling-trimmed floor-length leather
coat. Call me crazy, but I would never plunk down $200 of my hard-
earned money for a single tee shirt. I am, however, mildly curious to
know who would. Does she think it's an investment? A statement? Is she
trying to show off? Who would know it's a $200 tee anyhow? What if it
got caught in that rotaty-thingy in the washing machine? What if it
shunk? What if you spilled caviar down the front?

Lest you think said shirts are a figment of my imagination, do a quick
search on the Internet and you'll spot a Dolce & Gabbana tee for $295,
a David Meister for $145 and a tee by Trunk for $275. I don't even
think they have precious metals or Tahitian pearls sewn on them
either. They're just shirts.

If you've bought one of these uber tees, write and let me know why. Do
you love it? Wear it all the time? Regret it?

BTW, if you're looking for a more reasonably-priced tee (still pretty
expensive, but designer-quality and hip too), check out
michaelstars.com. I bought a stetchy blue lace trimmed tank and love
love love it. It was $50 with shipping. Check out the new styles and
let me know what you think. They do run pretty small, so order up
unless skin-tight is your thing.
