Shear Bliss

You walk into your hair salon, ask for a piecey pixie and end up with
a Paris Hilton bob...Could you be to blame?

Maybe, just maybe, you're not being specific enough, says Allure
magazine. Use these tips and walk out with the cut that's in your head
actually on your head.

Bring a photo. An effective way to communicate with your
stylist...especially about color.

Admit everything. Tell your stylist what your hair texture is like or
let your hair air dry before you walk into the salon. She has to know
what she's working with. Certain styles just won't work on all hair
types. As well, explain your personal style...how much you can work on
your hair, what you do for a job, what you wear, your
lifestyle...these factors can help your stylist determine your best cut.

Show. "Cut three inches," is specific. But it's better to say, "Cut to
here" and point to, say, your chin. It's easier for the stylist to
picture.

Set limits. Not sure what you want? Set limits. Never say, "Do
whatever you want," if you don't mean it. And by all means, speak up
in the middle of the process if its not what you want.
