The following skin care news comes from reader Suzy L., an avid
sailor, which makes her an expert on sun protection, don't you think?
Suzy says, "Every time I have traveled to Europe over last five years,
I've headed straight to the pharmacies to stock up on Anthlios, a
wonder sunscreen that provides extreme protection against UVA and UVB
rays. It's not a cheap trip, however--they are generally 2x more
expensive than U.S. sunscreens--but worth it."
Good news for us non-jet-setters: you can get this stuff on-line at www.globaldrugs.com
, and it'll soon be available in the U.S.
Wonder Sunscreen, Anthelios, $22 for the 100mL SPF 60 or 125mL spray
SPF 30. www.globaldrugs.com
The FDA has approved L'Oreal's Anthelios SX to be sold over the
counter in the U.S. Intrigued? Sign up for information at www.anthelios.com

For science types: Anthlios SX is a sunscreen product that contains
a combination of three active ingredients. One of the ingredients is a
new molecular entity (NME), ecamsule. Ecamsule has not been marketed
in the United States, but has been marketed in Europe and Canada as
Mexoryl SX since 1993. The other two active ingredients, avobenzone
and octocrylene, are generally recognized as safe and effective under
the current OTC monograph for sunscreens.
From Suzy: "Although the FDA website only mentions Anthlios SX by
name, the L'Oreal press release describes the approved product as a
"daily moisturizing cream." Anthlios and Vichy (both L'Oreal
brands) include a range of excellent sunscreen products - I prefer to
use their spray products that are marketed as being water-resistant
and contain a combination of Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl XL (also patented
by L'Oreal). They have worked well for this bowman - who has spent
hours literally underwater - as the front crew on a Yngling."
Might be worth a try!
